Professor Jin Yuan in ZOC Won the “Grand Challenge 2015 Young Scientist” Award

Professor Yuan Jin from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC) affiliated with Sun Yat-sen University has recently won the “Grand Challenge 2015 Young Scientist” award in “2015 Innovation Challenge Annual Meeting” held in Beijing. The meeting is organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People Republic of China (MOST), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in the United States and the US Agency for International Development. The journal Eye Science (ES) is the official publication of ZOC, sponsored by Sun Yat-sen University.

Recently, “2015 Innovation Challenge Annual Meeting” has been successfully organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People Republic of China (MOST), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in the United States (hereinafter referred to as the “Gates Foundation”) and the US Agency for International Development in Beijing. In the meeting, Professor Yuan Jin (Figure 1) from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC) affiliated with Sun Yat-sen University was awarded the “Grand Challenge 2015 Young Scientist”. Laiwu Zhang, Vice Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology presented certificates and trophies to the prize winners of the “Young Scientist” on site.

This year, MOST and the “Gates Foundation” established “Young Scientist” award in China. The award is made by the Jury Committee led by Academician Yigong Shi, dedicated to selecting out 50 outstanding young Chinese scientists from the field of life sciences, medicine, population, agriculture and etc. in recognition of their scientific and technological innovation, scientific research and transforming scientific achievement. The award aims to encourage them to continue to devote themselves to global health and development as their career. After a rigorous selection, Professor Yuan come to the fore from many excellent young scholars of the whole country because of his great contribution in the field of corneal transplant immunotherapy. He won the “Young Scientist” award, and is the only winner among young scholars in the Sun Yat-sen University.
