Dr. Shihui Wei, Professor of Ophthalmology in the Chinese PLA General Hospital, specializes in neuro-ophthalmology with primary academic interest in optic neuritis, anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, and inherited optic neuropathy. He is currently leading a number of clinical trials of monoclonal antibody therapy for optic neuropathy and gene therapy for Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy in China. The  basic science researches include developing a better animal model of NMOSD, the mechanism of microglia in NMO-IgG induced retinopathy，and a new strategy of ACT001 for the anti-inflammatory effect in NMOSD. These studies are supported by the National Key R&D Plans, National Natural Science Foundation of China, National S&T Infrastructure Program and National High-tech R&D Program. As the President of the Chinese Neuro-Ophthalmological Society and council member of the Asian Neuro-Ophthalmology Society, he has dedicated his career to promoting neuro-ophthalmology development in China and creating training program for young doctors in neuro-ophthalmology.
