Eye Science adheres to the authorship criteria established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), ensuring that each author is accountable for their specific contributions to the work.
The recognized criteria for authorship are as follows:
1. Significant contribution to the conception, design, data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of the study;
2. Drafting or critically revising the manuscript for important intellectual content;
3. Final approval of the version to be published;
4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that any issues related to accuracy or integrity are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Responsibilities of the Corresponding Author
The corresponding author is responsible for overseeing the manuscript submission and managing all communications with the journal. The corresponding author has the following responsibilities:
· Identify and notify the editorial office of any guest authors, i.e., individuals who made substantial contributions to the study or writing but do not meet the criteria for authorship;
· Confirm the absence of ghost authors, i.e., individuals who contributed significantly but were not disclosed to the editors;
· Submit ICMJE conflict of interest statements and Copyright Transfer Agreement for all authors;
· Provide the necessary conflict of interest disclosures on the manuscript's title page.
Research Groups/Writing Committees
· If the research group or writing committee is credited as the author and the chair of the group serves as the corresponding author, this should be indicated on the title page;
· If the corresponding author is not the group chair, a statement from the chair must be submitted, confirming that the group or committee members listed as authors on the title page are correct;
· We encourage transparency in authorship and recommend listing the group members appropriately in both the initial and subsequent articles or in the online supplementary materials;
· If group members are listed as authors, each member must meet the ICMJE authorship criteria and complete the necessary forms.
Authorship Policy for Research Groups/Writing Committees
· For smaller research groups (fewer than 10 members), the group can be credited as a team author or each member can be listed individually with the note “XYZ Research Group,” provided all members meet the authorship criteria;
· For larger research groups (more than 10 members), the writing committee members should be listed as authors, and an asterisk should be placed at the end of the paper to indicate “Writing Committee of the XYZ Research Group”;
· During submission, a document listing all members of the writing committee or research group must be included. This should be uploaded as a Word file under the document type “Co-Authors”;
· If the list of group members is provided only in an online file, those individuals will not be indexed as co-authors.
